Olivier Berton, PhD joined the Department faculty (January 2008) as an Assistant Professor in the Tenure Track. His laboratory is located in the Translational Research Laboratories (TRL 2218).

Dr. Berton investigates the molecular basis of affective disorders, particularly depression and posttraumatic stress disorder. Using animal models, he seeks to understand how events at the molecular and cellular levels may influence neuronal plasticity and behavior.

A native of France, Dr. Berton attended the University of Bordeaux 2 (Victor Segalen), where he received his BS in Experimental Psychology and MS and PhD in Neuroscience. Dr. Berton recently terminated a seven-year affiliation with the Department of Psychiatry of University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, as a postdoctoral associate under the mentorship of Eric J. Nestler, MD, PhD.
