SUBJECT: Investigational Drug Service (IDS)
Subject safety is an extremely important component of our research endeavors. To ensure subject safety for studies managed by the IDS, the IDS requires the following before study enrollment can begin:
- The current (most recent) study protocol.
- The IDS must be included in all study initiation visits.
- For industry trials, the IDS needs sponsor/monitor contact information.
- For investigator-initiated trials, a meeting or call to ensure all questions or issues are resolved.
- For trials involving IVRS/IWRS, at least two user accounts for IDS staff are needed.
- Account number to be used for IDS expenses.
Additionally, after study launch, the study team must keep IDS informed of protocol amendments or revisions.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Re: Update on PSOM Research Core Facilities
Dear Colleagues,
As Associate Dean of Research Core Facilities, I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the things the PSOM Core Committee has accomplished in direct support our research community during the last year. This committee oversees 21 research cores that offer a number of services to help advance the research and academic endeavors at Penn and neighboring scientific communities.
During the last year, under the direction of the Core Committee, the PSOM has:
- Established two new cores: Neurobehavior Testing Core (http://www.uphs.upenn.edu/neuroscience-center/research/ntc.html) and Next Generation Sequencing Core (http://ngsc.med.upenn.edu/)
- Improved and updated the cores website, which now includes a search function (www.med.upenn.edu/cores/)
- Hosted a PSOM and Cancer Center cores fair in Winter 2012 and a Clinical Research cores fair in Fall 2012
- Continued the development of a consolidated location for Penn Imaging that features the Electron Microscopy Core
In addition, financial support was provided to the following cores:
- Cell Center Stockroom
- Electron Microscopy
- Flow Cytometry
- Investigational Drug Services
- Neurobehavior Testing Core
- Next Generation Sequencing Core
- Research Instrumentation Shop
- Transgenic and Chimeric Mouse
If you are interested in learning more information on our Research Core Facilities, please feel free to contact me.
Best regards,
Morrie
