In October of 2009, the Center for Public Health Initiatives, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Migration Project and several local organizations, held a highly successful Roundtable Discussion on the Health of Immigrant Communities in Philadelphia. Wishing to continue the discussion and further the possible initiatives introduced at the roundtable, the participants agreed to form a group and in July, though a facilitated mission development session, defined goals and specific task areas. These goals include:
- Develop a workgroup website that helps to coordinate information and resources related to immigrant health in Philadelphia.
- Assess the specific strengths and weaknesses of providers in fulfilling health needs of select immigrant communities.
- Establish and promote best practices in health care for Philadelphia’ immigrants.
