Current Public-Health Related Activities:
Lisa Hilmi is a Senior Public Health Nurse who has worked internationally in over 10 countries in Africa and Asia. She has specialized in disaster relief and rehabilitation including Somalia health rehabilitation post-war and famine, Rwandan refugee crisis, Asian tsunami, Sri Lankan civil conflict, served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Niger, and more. Lisa has worked for the WHO, CARE, IMC and AmeriCares, as well as with American Red Cross Disaster Services. As a clinical nurse, Lisa worked at Kennedy Krieger Institute with pediatric trauma and injury. Research has included HIV/AIDS and displaced populations, disaster preparedness and response, nursing workforce training, gender-based violence, women's livelihood, and women's health issues. Lisa is a strong advocate for nursing systems strengthening and training internationally. Lisa has assisted with health infrastructure, injury surveillance, gender issues, clinical research and other global public health issues.
