Stomp Out Stigma Run (Sat, 4/4/09)
Active Minds is the only organization working to utilize the student voice to change the conversation about mental health on college campuses. Take a run around campus with the Penn Active Minds group and join in on the conversation to change stigmas related to mental health. Costumes and team participation is encouraged! **Perinatal Depression and “A History of Birth” (Mon, 4/6/09 @ 5pm)

Representatives from the Maternity Care Coalition and Dr. Ruth Wilf will speak together on reproductive health. Karen Pollack and Katja Pigur from the Maternity Care Coalition will discuss the impact of perinatal depression on child development and the risks and symptoms associated with it. Dr. Wilf, an accomplished midwife and childbirth activist, will show two short films and speak to the history of birth. Co-sponsored by Philadelphia Alliance for Labor Support. Please RSVP to attend.
HIV Screening (Tue, 4/7/09 @ 12pm - 4pm)

Philly AIDS Awareness will hold an HIV screening with the assistance of Philadelphia FIGHT, a comprehensive AIDS service organization providing primary care, consumer education, advocacy and research on potential treatments and vaccines. **Geographic Information Systems and Public Health (Tue, 4/7/09 @ 4pm)

This presentation will look at how the advancement of GIS mapping influences the field of public health. There will be presentations by Bridging the Gap interns, who worked on a presentation for Philadelphia FIGHT and from Dr. Amy Hillier (Assistant Professor in City and Regional Planning, School of Design), who will share her research on food access. Service Opportunity: Children’s Eye Screening (Wed, 4/8/09 @ 8:30am- 11am)

FocusFirst is an organization that was created to address the need for proper vision care among low-income children aged 6 months to 5 years. Our screening method, which uses a photorefractive camera to take a picture of the children’s eyes, is able to detect such conditions as nearsightedness, amblyopia, and even cataracts. Focus First will perform eye screenings for pre-school children at the Brightside Academy Early Care & Education [4047 Lancaster Ave.]. All are welcome to join us! No training is required. Unnatural Causes Pt VII - "Collateral Damage" (Wed, 4/15/09 @ 12pm-3pm)

The Center for Public Health Initiatives will be showing the final episode of the seven-part series, Unnatural Causes, a PBS documentary series that explores health equity. Rachel Poulain, MPH (Unnatural Causes Series Associate Producer & Director of Outreach, California Newsreel) and Giang Nguyen, MD MPH MSCE (UPenn Department of Family Medicine & Community Healtht) will lead a discussion following the episode, which explores how US occupation, military policy and globalization impact people's health, often in unanticipated ways.
