Welcome to the Center for Public Health Initiatives! The Center was launched by the University of Pennsylvania's Provost Office in 2007 to expand and strengthen public health education, research and practice, foster cross-disciplinary collaboration, and promote meaningful community/academic partnerships. The Center, which houses Penn's Masters in Public Health program, represents a major opportunity for the Penn community to coordinate and raise the visibility of our public health research and practice and expand our ability to produce new public health leaders.
The 2010/2011 academic year has gotten off to a fast start for the CPHI. We have successfully launched our seminar series, “Crisis as Catalyst in Public Health,” initiated a refugee health center with the Penn Center for Primary Care and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, continued to support the health based newspaper, “The Healthy Post,” at Lea elementary school, collaborated with the Philadelphia Collaborative Violence Prevention Center to organize Community Driven Research Day on October 28th, and much more.
The CPHI has a strong focus on improving the health and quality of life of underserved communities. To support these important initiatives, the CPHI will be holding a benefit concert on April 28th at 8:00pm at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. This concert will feature Amy Sue Barton (cello) and Navah Perlman (the daughter of Itzhak Perlman, piano). A dessert reception will follow.
