Panic Disorder Studies

Study Design

This study will compare the relative efficacy of three different therapy treatments for panic disorder. All three have been shown to be effective in one or more randomized controlled trials:

  • Applied Relaxation Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Panic Focused Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

Intake Evaluation and Treatment

Following a brief phone screening, potential participants will undergo a detailed and standardized diagnostic examination. Those deemed appropriate for the study will then be randomized to one of the three treatments.

Patients will attend 12 weeks of bi-weekly therapy sessions and track their panic attacks daily.

Follow-Up

Patients will be followed for one year after the completion of active treatment. They will have monthly evaluative interviews by phone, and in-person visits for more extensive evaluation at months 6 and 12.
