November 3-4, 2016
The Westin Crystal City, Arlington, VA

Investigators of the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children Study (CKiD), and the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study, two long-term observational cohort studies of children and adults with chronic kidney disease supported by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), will hold a symposium to highlight their ancillary studies, discuss opportunities to develop additional ancillary studies, and solicit ideas about potential future directions for these two research programs. Investigators at all levels of experience are invited to participate in the symposium and provide input that will help guide the future development of these two nationwide studies. As a research platform, both CKiD and CRIC serve as important vehicles for career development in clinical nephrology research in both children and adults. Junior investigators are particularly encouraged to attend.

Over two days, CKiD and CRIC ancillary investigators will present highlights from research that has been facilitated by these programs. In addition, representatives from the Framingham Heart Study and the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial/Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications Study will discuss how ancillary studies have enhanced these long-term cohort studies. CKiD and CRIC investigators and National Institutes of Health Project Scientists and Scientific Review Officers will interact with attendees through formal presentations, as well as poster and round table sessions.

This will provide opportunities to:

  1. Learn about the extensive data and biosample resources available through these studies
  2. Brainstorm about possible areas of future ancillary investigation
  3. Network with established CKD researchers
  4. Contribute to the development of the future directions of these studies
  5. Gain insights into peer-review of ancillary study grant applications to the NIH
  6. Understand how the studies can be used in NIH career development grant applications

Registration for this event is required and is limited. There is no registration fee. Travel expenses will be largely covered for junior faculty and trainees. Pending available resources, travel expenses may be offset for other participants.

The registration deadline is September 21, 2016.
