  Directions

  The following directions provide assistance in arriving to the UPenn Center for Studies of Addictions at the Treatment Research Center/Charles O’Brien Center.

  Our entrance is located on 39th St. between Chestnut and Samson Streets. Look for the blue awning above our door which reads, “Charles O’Brien Center” and “Treatment Research Center.”

  Local Directions

  From West Philadelphia (40th St. or above) via Market St.

  • Travel east on Market St. until 39th St.
  • Turn right on 39th St. (headed south).
  • Travel approximately a block and a half, passing Chestnut St.
  • Our entrance is on 39th St. between Chestnut and Samson Streets (right-side of street, door closest to Samson St.-If you pass Samson St., however, you have gone too far).
  • Meter parking is available in front of our building. (We do not provide reimbursement for meter fees).

  From Center City (38th St. or lower) via Market St.

  • Travel west on Market St. until 39th St.
  • Turn left on 39th St. (headed south).
  • Travel approximately a block and a half, passing Chestnut St.
  • Our entrance is on 39th St. between Chestnut and Samson Streets (right-side of street, door closest to Samson St.-if you pass Samson St., however, you have gone too far).
  • Meter parking is available in front of our building. (We do not provide reimbursement for meter fees).

  Public Transportation

  Market-Frankford Subway Line (“EL”)

  • From 30th Street Station, or 34th St. and lower, take the Market-Frankford Subway Line (otherwise known as the “EL”) Westbound to 40th St.
  • From West Philadelphia, or 46th St. and above, take the Market-Frankford Subway Line (otherwise known as the “EL”) Eastbound to 40th St.
  • From 40th St., walk east on Market to 39th St.
  • Turn right on 39th St. (headed south).
  • Walk approximately a block and a half, passing Chestnut St.
  • Our entrance is 39th St. between Chestnut and Samson Streets (door closest to Samson St.-if you pass Samson St., however, you have gone too far).

  30th St. Station (via AMTRAK or SEPTA Regional Rail Lines)

  • All AMTRAK and SEPTA Regional Rail Lines will transport passengers from outside the city to 30th Street Station. (If taking R1, R2, or R3 lines see directions below: “From University City Station”).
  • From 30th Street Station, travel east on Market St. until 39th St. You may choose to walk, take a taxi, or travel Westbound on the Market-Frankford Subway Line (“EL”). Market-Frankford Subway Line (“EL”) can be picked up outside 30th St. Station.
  • Turn left on 39th St. (headed south).
  • Travel approximately a block and a half, passing Chestnut St.
  • Our entrance is on 39th St. between Chestnut and Samson Streets (right-side of street, door closest to Samson St.-if you pass Samson St., however, you have gone too far).

  University City Station (via SEPTA Regional Rail Lines)

  • The R1 Airport, R2 Marcus Hook-Wilmington, R3 Media-Elwyn and most R2 Warminster and R3 West Trenton trains provide direct service to the University City Station.
  • From University City Station (3620 South St.), walk west on South St. towards 33rd St. and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP).
  • Continue west on Spruce St. headed towards 38th St.
  • Make a right onto 38th St. (also called University Ave.).
  • Be prepared to make a quick left onto Walnut St. (1st left at the light).
  • Once on Walnut St., make first right onto 39th St.
  • Walk one block, passing Samson St. Immediately after crossing Samson, the 1st door on the left-side of the street is our entrance. Above the door says, “Treatment Research Center.”

  New Jersey via PATCO/NJ Transit to 8th & Market

  • Drive or take NJ Transit (www.njtransit.com) to a near-by PATCO station (http://www.ridepatco.org/).
  • PATCO Rail will bring you into Philadelphia at 8th & Market St. From here, transfer onto the Market-Frankford Subway Line (“EL”). Note: you will have to purchase SEPTA tokens for the Market-Frankford Subway Line.
  • Take the Market-Frankford Subway Line (“EL”) Westbound to 40th St. and follow the directions above titled, “From Market-Frankford Subway Line.”

  Driving Directions

  Meter parking is available in front of our building but, please note we do not reimburse parking fees.

  From the North and Northeast via I-95:
  Take I-95 South to the I-676/Central Philadelphia exit. Then take I-676 West (through Central Philadelphia) to the exit for I-76 East/International Airport. Immediately, merge right, and then take Exit #39 (30th Street Station). At the top of the exit ramp, bear right, and then follow the curve to the left around 30th Street Station. Proceed on Market St. for nine blocks to 39th St. Turn left onto 39th St. Travel approximately a block and a half, passing Chestnut St. Our entrance is on 39th St. between Chestnut and Samson Streets (right-side of street, door closest to Samson St.-if you pass Samson St., however, you have gone too far).

  From the West
  Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Exit 326 (old exit 24), Valley Forge. Follow I-76 East to the 30th St. Exit. At the top of the exit ramp, bear right and then follow the curve to the left around 30th Street Station. Make right turn onto Market St. Proceed on Market St. for nine blocks to 39th St. Turn left onto 39th St. Travel approximately a block and a half, passing Chestnut St. Our entrance is on 39th St. between Chestnut and Samson Streets (right-side of street, door closest to Samson St.-if you pass Samson St., however, you have gone too far).

  From the South
  Take I-95 North past the Philadelphia International Airport. Take Exit 11 (I-76 West) to Central Philadelphia. Follow all signs for Central Philadelphia and I-76 West.

  After crossing the Platt Bridge, proceed about a mile to a traffic light and turn left (continuing to follow signs for I-76 West). Continue on I-76 West past University Avenue exit and take Exit #39 (30th Street Station). Make a left onto Market St. Proceed on Market St. for nine blocks to 39th St.. Turn left onto 39th St.. Travel approximately a block and a half, passing Chestnut St. Our entrance is on 39th St. between Chestnut and Samson Streets (right-side of street, door closest to Samson St.-if you pass Samson St., however, you have gone too far).

  From New Jersey
  Take the New Jersey Turnpike to Exit 3, then the Black Horse Pike (Rte. 168 North) for one mile to I-295 South. Go one mile to Exit 26, I-76 West to the Walt Whitman Bridge. Cross the Bridge onto I-76 West (Schuylkill Expressway) and follow I-76 West to Exit #39 (30th Street Station). At the top of the exit ramp, cross Chestnut St. and continue for one block to Market St. Make a left onto Market St. Proceed on Market St. for nine blocks to 39th St. Turn left onto 39th St. Travel approximately a block and a half, passing Chestnut St. Our entrance is on 39th St. between Chestnut and Samson Streets (right-side of street, door closest to Samson St.-if you pass Samson St., however, you have gone too far).

  From the Ben Franklin Bridge via I-676:
  Take the Benjamin Franklin Bridge to I-676 West (Vine St. Expressway). Follow I-676 West (through Central Philadelphia) to the exit for I-76 East/International Airport. Immediately, merge right, and then take Exit #39 (30th Street Station). At the top of the exit ramp, bear right, and then follow the curve to the left around 30th Street Station. Proceed on Market St. for nine blocks to 39th St. Turn left onto 39th St. Travel approximately a block and a half, passing Chestnut St. Our entrance is on 39th St. between Chestnut and Samson Streets (right-side of street, door closest to Samson St.-if you pass Samson St., however, you have gone too far).
