Introduction to Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD Workshop

Workshop Description: Faculty from the Center for the Treatment & Study of Anxiety will provide an overview of Exposure/Response Prevention (EX/RP), an evidence-based treatment for OCD.  The workshop will cover the definition and types of obsessions and compulsions, as well as introduce the key components of EX/RP (rationale for treatment, gathering information about the client’s OCD symptoms and history, constructing in vivo hierarchies, conducting imaginal and in vivo exposures, and planning for relapse prevention). Case examples and questions from participants will also be discussed.

At the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Define obsessions and compulsions
  • Identify different types of obsessions and compulsions
  • Describe the diagnosis and psychopathology of OCD
  • Discuss the rationale for EX/RP
  • Explain what an in vivo hierarchy is
  • Describe imaginal exposures as related to EX/RP
  • Explain key factors in planning for relapse prevention

Continuing Education Credit:  Philadelphia Behavior Therapy Association (PBTA) is approved by the American Psychological Association to provide continuing education credits for licensed psychologists and Pennsylvania social workers. Other licensed professionals should confirm with their respective licensing boards that CE activities in compliance with the American Psychological Association’s standards for continuing education credits are acceptable. PBTA maintains responsibility for the program.

This workshop is approved for credit hours. In order to receive continuing education credits, participants must:

  • attend each hour of the workshop (no late arrivals or early departures)
  • sign in and out of the workshop each day
  • complete a post-test and course evaluation
  • pay $30 by check to PBTA (payable at any time during the workshop)

If all of these requirements are met, you will receive a continuing education certificate at the end of the workshop.
