CVI Funding Initiatives

Periodically and generally in preparation for multi-disciplinary awards (PO-1’s, SCCORs, Roadmap Initiatives, etc.), the Penn CVI leadership issues strategically-targeted Request for Proposals (RFPs) as need arises and as opportunities present.

Any Penn faculty member working in the strategically-targeted area, or a closely related area, is encouraged to apply for this funding. These funds are not restricted to investigators with a track record of cardiovascular investigation. Applications from research scientists who have not historically focused their studies in cardiovascular science are encouraged to apply for funding. Funding amounts will vary depending upon the RFP, but generally range from $25,000 per year to $200,000 per year.

For more information please contact the Penn CVI Business Office.

Summary
This FOA issued by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health, encourages Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions/organizations that propose collaborative systems biology research projects by multi-disciplinary teams to advance our understanding of normal physiology and perturbations associated with heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) diseases and disorders. Multi-disciplinary expertise across experimental and computational domains is required and the multi-PI mechanism is allowed, as integration across these domains is a critical element of the proposed research plan.

AHA Young Investigator Database Research Seed Grant
Council on Clinical Cardiology and Stroke Council
Application Deadlines are September 30 and March 28 (on-going) »

Contact: Laura Shuey, AHA

Summary
The Council on Clinical Cardiology and the Council on Stroke place a great value on the development of young clinical investigators. To further this effort, the council has a limited number of seed grants for young investigators for meritorious research projects based on the data gathered from Get With The GuidelinesSM (GWTG). Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) is a hospital-based quality improvement program designed to close the treatment gap in cardiovascular disease and stroke. Study questions (hypotheses) need to be developed within the context of data acquired through the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines program. The applicant should review the data elements collected across each of the modules (CAD, Heart Failure and Stroke). To avoid developing a proposal already in progress, it will also be helpful to review prior published publications and the list provided of abstracts and manuscripts already in process. Data are also collected during hospitalization and longitudinal data post discharge is not available.
