- AAD Medical Student Core Curriculum
An informative web site created by the AAD for student learning about dermatology. There are a number of concise handouts that cover dermatologic disease from a basic science and a clinical perspective. These are a great resource to read over to quickly gain an understanding of the etiology, clinical presentation, and treatment of common dermatologic diseases. - Dermatology Elective -- Recommended Textbooks
If you are a student taking a dermatology elective at Penn, the experience can be daunting because dermatology is an entirely different language. First, make sure you read the brief lectures offered in the AAD Medical Student Core Curriculum. Once you are done reading through those, here is a list of books recommended for the rotation. - Medical Student Government Digital Archive: Dermatology
This site has a collection of detailed outlines from the second year pre-clinical dermatology course. - Introductory Lecture Series Power Point Presentations (coming soon)
The second and third year residents introduce the incoming first year residents to clinical dermatology through a series of introductory lectures. Another excellent resource to get oriented.
Online Web Atlases
- DermAtlas by Johns Hopkins
A picture-based resource that is good for seeing the different ways that diseases can present clinically. There is also a quiz on the web site to test your knowledge. Not the best resource if you are just beginning to learn about dermatology, but useful for "seeing" a lot of different diseases. - University of Iowa Homepage
The University of Iowa Department of Dermatology Homepage has two great resources. The first is the DermPathTutor which is a great teaching tool for dermatopathology . The second resource is a collection of Clinical Skin Disease Images - Multiple Resource Web Page
This web site has a long list of resources and learning tools for dermatology.
Dermatology Journals
- Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology
The "blue journal," as it is called, is a primary journal for dermatology. The JAAD contains both clinical and basic science studies that cover the breadth of dermatology. - Archives of Dermatology
The Archives of Dermatology journal is a terrific peer-reviewed journal associated with the American Medical Association. - Journal of Investigative Dermatology
The Journal of Investigative Dermatology is a basic science-based journal focused on the pathogenesis of dermatologic disease.
