The summer before their matriculation, entering first year minority students are matched with second year students who serve as mentors during the summer and subsequent school year. These upper class students provide advice about moving to Philadelphia, housing, extracurricular activities and how to do well academically. Frequently, they offer used textbooks and tips on exam preparation.

Faculty/Housestaff and Student Mentoring Program

In the fall semester, minority faculty and residents have meetings with students to discuss their specialties and the criteria for successful academic performance in their specialty's clerkship. These sessions are open to all and facilitate continuous interaction and networking among students, faculty and residents.

Educational Pipeline Program

The mission of the program is to provide mentorship and neuroscience education at all levels. High school students are taught by undergraduates, who learn from medical students who, in turn, are guided by neurology residents and fellows. The program provides a valuable means for college students, medical students, physicians-in-training and faculty at the University of Pennsylvania to contribute meaningfully to their surrounding community. For more information, go to the Educational Pipeline web site.
