PRINCIPAL RESEARCH INTERESTS

Electron transfer theory and design of natural and synthetic proteins;
Vulnerability of natural bioenergetic systems to medically relevant failure;
Application of principles of natural bioenergetic systems to harvesting sunlight for catalysis and clean energy, including design of artificial electron transfer proteins that self assemble on electrodes;
UV, Visible and Infrared spectroscopy, electrochemistry and light activated kinetics as probes for action of these systems.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

More than 12 years of lectures at University of Pennsylvania, including BMB 610—Biomolecular Spectroscopy (Biochemistry and Biophysics department), Bio 526—Techniques in molecular biology (Biology department), and lectures at the Veterinary school on bioenergetics. Delivered 3 different natural science courses for adult education at Antioch College.
