Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Advanced Search

Combined Degree and Physician Scholar Programs

MD/Master of Science in Health Policy Research Option

At the University of Pennsylvania, there is no formal MD/Master of Science in Health Policy Research (MSHP) program. However, if a highly qualified enrolled medical student is interested in pursuing an MD/MSHP, it may be possible with careful planning and guidance from the leadership of the MSHP Program and the Combined Degree Office.

The Master of Science in Health Policy Research Program is a training program designed primarily for physicians pursuing careers at the interface of health services research and health policy. The primary focus is on: health economics, health policy, qualitative/quantitative data collection, research study design and data analysis. As such, medical students will need some level of prior training and experience, particularly in economics and quantitative methods, in order to be prepared for and successful in the courses.

Interested Perelman medical students should contact Traci Chupik, Administrative Director of the MSHP, to discuss their interest and educational background to see if the MD-MSHP would be a good fit. Please include a copy of your current CV and a list of prior relevant coursework with your inquiry to Traci.
