The Gerd Muehllehner Professorship of Radiology

Ursula Lisbeth Muehllehner

The Professorship was established with the gifts of Gerd Muehllehner, PhD, his wife, Ursula Lisbeth Muehllehner, and their friends to support a faculty member in the Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine.

Gerd and Ursula Muehllehner have contributed to the development of positron emission tomography (PET) technology in both academia and industry. Following Gerd’s ten years on the faculty at Penn, he and Ursula, a Wharton graduate, started UGM Medical Systems to commercialize PET technology developed at Penn. Now in retirement, the Muehllehners support environmental and historical organizations in the Wisconsin area.

The Professorship was originally begun as a PET research fund supported by the Muehllehners, David A. Mankoff, MD, PhD, and Jean Cho. To broaden the application of the fund, it was converted into the Professorship, which was supported with additional funding from Joel Karp, PhD and Janet J. Karp.
