Yvette Sheline, MD

Yvette Sheline, MD, the McLure Chair in Psychiatry, was recruited to the Perelman School of Medicine in 2013 as Director of the Center for Neuromodulation in Depression and Stress. Dr. Sheline is known for her pioneering work on hippocampal volume loss in major depression, as well as novel work investigating neuroimaging treatment effects of antidepressants, cognitive behavioral therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and real-time fMRI feedback. She also seeks to elucidate brain circuits in patients with preclinical Alzheimer’s disease (AD); her laboratory has shown that antidepressants reduce the formation of amyloid, a contributor to the development of AD.

Dr. Sheline received a BA from Harvard, an MS in neurophysiology from Yale, and an MD from Boston University; she completed her psychiatry residency at Harvard. She has received multiple awards from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation and NIMH, has chaired numerous NIH review committees, and is an elected Fellow in the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology.
