Dear Colleagues,

We wanted to offer our congratulations to the winners of this year’s Celebration of Innovation, sponsored by the Penn Center for Innovation (PCI):

  • 2016/17 Deal of the Year Award: Jean Bennett, M.D., Ph.D. & James Wilson, M.D., Ph.D. [In recognition of the 2016 Penn-Biogen R&D Alliance]
  • 2016/17 Inventor of the Year Award: John D. Lambris, Ph.D. [Recognizing US Patent 9,371,365 “Modified Compstatin With Peptide Backbone and C-Terminal Modifications”]

In addition, congratulations to the 63 faculty members who were recognized for their patent awards in FY16.  More information can be found here.

I also wanted to make you aware of a new informative guide on commercialization developed by PCI.  This terrific resource, available electronically, provides guidance on invention disclosures, intellectual property, contracts, and patent policies.

Lastly, I’d like to recognize the continued partnership with PCI, which was recently ranked the nation’s sixth best university office for technology transfer by the Milken Institute.  I strongly encourage you to visit PCI’s updated website as well as other opportunities and support we have in place throughout campus (Pennovation Center, Penn Health-Tech, Medical Device Accelerator, among many others) to help foster and bring ideas to concepts to products.

Best wishes for a restful summer,

Jon Epstein, MD
