Writing a Competitive Grant Proposal

Part 2: Writing Clearly and Succinctly: Developing Your Specific Aims

ENROLL NOW

“Specific Aims” sounds straightforward, but don’t be fooled: this short section can cripple a proposal right at the outset. In this session, we examine examples of Specific Aims to uncover linguistic features that bring a project into compelling, sharp, and succinct focus. By asking applicants to do more with less, the new NIH format for grant applications puts a premium on scientific writing that is efficient, effective, and persuasive. This series of workshops focuses on the fundamentals of scientific argument, with particular attention to the aspects most relevant to effective proposals: communicating novelty and significance, motivating readers, and organizing the research plan.
