NIMH Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
in Stress, Aging, and Cognition
The Geriatric Psychiatry Section in conjunction with the PENN Memory Center and the Cellular and Molecular Neuropathology Program at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for participation in this multidisciplinary program of postdoctoral research training with a focus on stress, aging, and cognition. The program is offering 2 and 3 year fellowships, to applicants with MD or PhD degrees who are committed to careers in translational aging research. The training opportunities within this program span the breadth of translational research ranging from basic cell and molecular studies of stress and aging neurobiology to clinical biomarker research to randomized clinical trials and efficacy studies. All fellows will participate in the University's Patient Oriented Research Training core, and training in the ethical conduct of research. MD's without prior formal research training will participate in the MS program in Clinical Epidemiology (MSCE). For others, participation in the MSCE program will be elective. Bilingual Research Coordinator
DUTIES:
The Clinical Research Coordinator A will join a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals to coordinate clinical research for Spanish and English-speaking people with Alzheimer’s disease, along with their families. The individual who fills this position will be responsible for working with the research staff at the Penn Memory Center (PMC) to screen, recruit, schedule, and coordinate research visits, collect and enter research data. Verbal and written translation is required in this position. This position requires an individual with well-developed administrative skills who can work with a diverse staff and patient populations and liaison with referring physicians, faculty, and the community. He/she must also pay close attention to detail and accuracy and have superior organizational skills. This position will reports to Senior Research Coordinator. This is a bi-lingual position; fluency in Spanish and English is essential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree with 2 to 4 years work experience or equivalent. Previous clinical research experience in assessing research subjects with neurological or psychiatric disorders, previous experience working with industry-sponsored studies, experience with data analysis, and experience with manuscript preparation preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English. Experience with database, e-mail, Microsoft office and other productivity software. Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work with details. Excellent written communication skills. Knowledge of protocols and University procedures preferred. Successful candidate must be highly motivated, solutions-oriented, and able to multi-task. Ability to interact effectively with physicians, program leaders, patients, caregivers, staff and administrators. Ability to work within a team setting.
