Clinical Trial Information

PI: Anthony N. Fabricatore, Ph.D.
Title: Two-for-2 (A trial of two diets for managing weight and type 2 diabetes)
Purpose: To compare the long-term effects of two diets on weight and glycemic control.
Brief Description: The “Two-for-2” study is currently recruiting overweight adults (ages 18-65) with type 2 diabetes to participate in a comparison of two weight loss programs. Both programs include group-based behavioral counseling and exercise recommendations. The difference in the two programs is the type of diet they teach. One teaches a low-fat diet, whereas the other teaches a low-glycemic load (GL) diet. We will be comparing changes in weight and blood sugars over 40 weeks of treatment and an additional year of follow-up.
Eligibility: Adults with type 2 diabetes and a body mass index of 27-45 kg/m2 who are seeking to lose weight and who are willing to attend 30 evening groups over 40 weeks may be eligible to participate.
Compensation: There is no compensation for participation in the main study. There may be an opportunity to participate in a sub-study, which offers compensation.
