Funding Opportunities
Penn
Institute for Immunology
Pilot Grant Program in:
Employing genomic, computational or bioinformatic
approaches
in immunology
2013
The Penn Institute for Immunology is announcing a Pilot
Grant Program to foster new initiatives into genomic, computational or
bioinformatic approaches that apply large-scale data generation and/or analyses
to new immunological discovery and/or translational immunology. Examples include applications that would use
high-throughput sequencing (RNA-seq transcriptional analysis, ChIP-seq, genomic
sequencing), microarrays, analysis of high-density flow or mass cytometry using
computational approaches (e.g. FLAME, SPADE, cytobank), novel computational
analysis of large-scale data sets and systems biology approaches to address
fundamental and translational immunology questions. The goal of this program is
to encourage future applications for external funding based on data generated
during the pilot grant period. Therefore, pilot projects with a clear path to
future NIH grant submissions are highly encouraged.
Important Dates:
Submission deadline for full applications: May 15,
2013
Awards made by: June 15, 2013
It is anticipated that up to 3 pilots will be
awarded. Applications may request up to
$75,000 in support for one year.
Eligibility
All faculty members of the Penn IFI are invited to
submit proposals.
Full applications must be submitted by email to Kaitlyn
Piazza (kbaraldi@mail.med.upenn.edu) by 15 May 2013

Award
Terms
1) Awardees are required to inform the IFI in the event
that the Pilot/Feasibility Project receives external funding during the project
period.
2) A final progress report is due one month after the
close of the project period. The report will contain a one-page synopsis of
scientific progress and a list of resulting collaborations, publications, and
grants.
3) Awardees will provide interim reports concerning
other support, resulting publications, and research activities for the IFI
annual retreat and continuation applications.
4) Awardees will
also be required to present their work at the 2014 IFI Year in Review.
