conditioning in animals; influence of anxiety on sleep; posttraumatic stress
disorder (PTSD)

RESEARCH SUMMARY
I am interested in the effects of fear and anxiety on sleep. My research
program has integrated clinical and preclinical components. In human
studies, we are investigating the nature of the sleep disturbance in PTSD;
with psychological and polysomnographic outcome measures, we are looking
at potential treatments. In animal studies, we are developing an animal
model of PTSD-related sleep changes; we are exploring the neuropharmacological
and molecular mechanisms of fear-conditioned sleep in rodents.
