RESEARCH INTERESTS

Ocular pharmacology and innervation; neural regulation of eye growth and refractive error

RESEARCH TECHNIQUES

Histochemistry and immunohistochemistry; biochemistry; molecular biology; physiologic optics

RESEARCH SUMMARY

We seek to clarify the physiologic mechanisms governing ocular physiology, with a major emphasis on neural control. Our work includes study of the peripheral ocular innervation and related ganglia as well as novel paracrinemechanisms within the eye.

In addition, we are studying the neural regulatory mechanisms that control the post-natal growth of the eye and account for the development of refractive errors, most notably myopia or nearsightedness.
