:: The 3rd Philadelphia-Wide Symposium on Neurovirology and Neuroimmunology will be held on September 28, 2017. For information and registration, please visit: https://wistar.org/neurovirology2017 :: Flyer

Many laboratories at Penn study virology, focusing on viral replication, the host response, and viral countermeasures.  For example APOBEC3G, the host-encoded restriction factor targeted by HIV Vif, was discovered in the Microbiology Department at the University of Pennsylvania.  Today many pathogenic viruses of humans are under study, including filoviruses, HIV, MMTV, Coronaviruses including SARS, SV40, Merkel Cell Carcinoma virus, Herpes virus, bunyaviruses including Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever and Rift Valley fever, and influenza viruses.  HIV researchers in the program work closely with the Penn Center for AIDS Research; researchers focusing on tumor viruses work closely with the Tumor Virology Program; researchers working on bacterial viruses work closely with the PennCHOP Microbiome Program
