Laboratory for Applied Synthetic Biology

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

The immune system harbors great cytotoxic potential with exquisite specificity.  The Laboratory of Applied Synthetic Biology (LASB) is trying to capitalize upon this cytotoxic potential through the use of synthetic biological systems for the control of T cells for adoptive immunotherapy. The missions of the laboratory include:

  1. The development of artificial ex vivo culture systems for human T cells that can generate T cells with defined phenotype and function

  2. The development of methods to genetically reprogram human T cells with artificial antigen specificity using synthetic T-cell receptors such as chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) or T-bodies
