Michael E. Thase, MD
Professor of Psychiatry

Dr. Thase joined the faculty of the
Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania
in 2007 as Professor of Psychiatry after more than 27 years at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.
Dr. Thase's research focuses on the assessment and treatment of mood disorders, including studies of the differential therapeutics of both depression and bipolar affective disorder.
A 1979 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Medicine, Dr. Thase is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, and Vice Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. Dr. Thase has been elected to the membership of the American College of Psychiatrists and the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology.
Dr. Thase has authored or co-authored more than 500 scientific articles and book chapters, as well as 15 books.
Charles Dackis, MD
Associate Professor of Psychiatry
Director, Mood Disorders Treatment Center
Dr. Dackis received his MD degree from Duke University and completed his psychiatric residency at Columbia University. He is board-certified in Psychiatry and has more than 30 years of experience treating mood disorders. Dr. Dackis is in charge of psychiatric clinical services at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. He also oversees psychiatric services for the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania. He is actively involved in resident and medical student education and has been a principal investigator in clinical trials at Penn for more than a decade.

Mahendra Bhati, MD
Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry
Attending Psychiatrist, Mood Disorders Treatment Center
Dr. Bhati serves as an Attending Psychiatrist in the Mood Disorders Treatment Center within the Penn Comprehensive Depression Center. After graduating medical school at Louisiana State University, Dr. Bhati completed a residency in Psychiatry and fellowship training in Neuropsychiatry at Penn. Complementing his work in the Mood Disorders Treatment Center, Dr. Bhati acts as the Associate Medical Director of the Outpatient Clinic in the Department of Psychiatry and a research investigator collaborating in studies of panic disorder and treatment-resistant depression. He is Principle Investigator of the DSM 5 field trial at Penn and specializes in neuromodulation, administering electroconvulsive therapy in addition to performing research in transcranial magnetic stimulation and deep brain stimulation.
