About Us:
The PUB was founded in 2002 by then-Medical School Government President Sam Applebaum so that medical students could have a cheap and easy place to buy and sell used medical texts.
In 2006, MSG expanded the PUB's offerings to include Penn Med apparel and other merchandise. Late in the summer of 2007 MSG created a merchandise website so that faculty and family would have the opportunity to purchase PUB merchandise as well. Please visit there for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions about the PUB and buying and selling books
Q: What is it?A: The PennMed Used Bookstore (PUB) is a student-created bookstore that sells used medical texts to students for other medical students.
Q: Where is it located?
A: The PUB is located basement of Stemmler Hall at the level of the mailboxes. When you exit the stairwell, take a right (instead of a left to go to the mailboxes) and follow the hallway to the end. The PUB will be on your right hand side after you pass through the double doors.
Q: How are prices determined?
A: Students who are selling their books set the price. The PUB keeps 15%, which goes towards maintaining the bookstore.
Q: How do I sign up to sell my books?
A: Fill out a PUB Contract found on the PUB Book Drop outside of the PUB.
Q: Where do I turn in books?
A: Books can be turned in to the PUB Book Drop located outside the PUB in the basement of Stemmler Hall. Labels can be found there as well.
Q: How often is the PUB open?
A: The PUB is generally open every Friday from 10am-4pm. Check your e-mail for updates on dates and times.
Q: What type of books can I turn in?
A: We ask you to limit the books to those you have used for your medical education.
Q: Will the PUB take books in any condition?
A: The PUB will only accept books in good condition. In general, this means that there is minimal highlighting, a relatively recent edition (the current edition or one previous to the current edition--USMLE books must be from the past 3 years) and that answers are not circled in Q&A books. Q: What happens if my books aren’t accepted?
A: We will make every effort to e-mail you and let you know that we feel that your books won’t sell in the PUB. Books found to be unacceptable can be picked up during regular PUB hours.
