Additional Non-Degree Coursework

MD-PhD* students, like MD students, may take up to three University courses outside of their required curricula without being charged additional tuition. Students may take no more than one course per term, and are only eligible during the first eight semesters (fall and spring terms, years 1 through 4).
In order to register for a course outside your discipline you must get permission from the Program Director (Skip Brass). Dissertation students must get permission from their thesis advisor as well as from the Program Director. Once you have permission, Maggie can register you.
After your fourth year (and/or the maximum of three courses) you are not eligible to take additional graduate or undergraduate courses without incurring tuition charges. This is true regardless of whether your primary activity is in medical or graduate school. If you would like to take a course and are willing to pay tuition, you may do so as long as you have received permission from the program director and your advisor. (This is because taking a course costs substantially more than being registered for dissertation, and the CD program will not have budgeted funds for you to take a course at that point).
Please note that these policies are undergoing review and may become more restrictive.
*Students with an atypical curriculum and/or registration pattern may not have the same eligibility. Consult with Maggie if you have questions.
