Clinical Refresher Course
There are at least two mechanisms to help returning students get up to speed. One is Med 150, the clinical refresher course. This course is designed to assist students who have been away from clinical experiences for some time (i.e., students returning from laboratory work or a leave of absence) to practice and regain confidence in their clinical skills. It is strongly encouraged for all returning MD-PhD students.
The student will be assigned to an inpatient team, most likely at Pennsy. Her or she will learn how to assess patients in the context of a hospital admission through observation. This will encompass broad-based history and physical examination skills, patient presentation, and interpretation of laboratory data. Students will be expected to attend and participate in daily work and attending rounds, as well as attend the conference series required for all students and interns.
The Pass/Fail grade will be based upon evaluations submitted by the Attending and the Resident, and will be assigned by the Course Director. Duration of the course will be two weeks. To arrange to take med 150, contact Maria Hernandez.
Another option for some is attending the Intro to Clinical Medicine and Differential Diagnosis activities with the second year students in December. An announcement will go out in November of each year with information about the schedule.
