01/12/2016 - Congratulations to Yaniv et al.! - Yaniv, Allison, and Mary together published "Oocyte Polarization Is Coupled to the Chromosomal Bouquet, a Conserved Polarized Nuclear Configuration in Meiosis." in PloS Biology. This paper identifies chromosomal bouquet as the earliest asymmetry in the Oocyte that leads to the later definition of the body axis.

07/06/2015 - Mullins Lab at the FASEB TGFBeta Superfamily Conference - Mary Mullins will give a talk at the FASEB meeting: TGF‐β Superfamily: Signaling in Development and Disease at Snowmass Village, CO, July 12-17. Ben Tajer will present a poster on his work on the BMP receptor complex.

01/28/2015 - The Mullins Lab supports the International Zebrafish Society - The Mullins Lab encourages you to join the International Zebrafish Society. The IZFS is dedicated to maximizing the good that zebrafish research can do for society, as detailed in their mission statement (linked to above). Mary Mullins has been instrumental in starting this organization, and now serves as acting Vice President.

12/19/2014 - Mullins Lab 2nd Place Photo for ASCB 2014 - The Mullins Lab won second place at the 2014 ASCB meeting for their submission to the #weareresearch photo competition.

11/19/2014 - Francesca Tuazon to Present at the UPenn BMB Retreat - Francesca Tuazon will present her poster titled "Shaping the BMP morphogen gradient through regulation of metallography ease activity" at the upcoming UPenn Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics Retreat on November 20th.

11/19/2014 - Mullins Lab at the 2014 ASCB Meeting - Ricardo Fuentes, Matias Escobar, James Dutko, and Joseph Zinski will present at the upcoming 2014 American Society for Cell Biology Meeting. Each will present a poster on his work, and Joseph Zinski will give a 5 minute lightning talk.

10/03/2014 - Mullins Lab at CSH Genetics, Genomics and Phenomics of Fish Asia - Mary Mullins will be presenting her work entitiled "Adult Trait Phenomics" at the Cold Spring Harbor Asia Genetics, Genomics and Phenomics of Fish Conference. The conference will be held from October 20th to the 24th in Suzhou, China.

09/01/2014 - Farewell and Best Fishes to Elliott Abrams - Congratulations to former lab member Eliott Abrams for securing an Assistant Professorship of Biology at SUNY Purchase. While in our lab, Eliott helped perform a maternal-effect mutagenesis screen in zebrafish and identified two important mutant classes that disrupt the cleavage stage of development. He published his work on one of these, the brambleberry protein, in Cell in 2012. Eliott was a fixture in the lab for 5 years and will be sorely missed.

07/26/2014 - Francesca Tuazon to speak at Bryn Mawr College - Francesca was invited to speak to incoming STEM Posse Scholars at Bryn Mawr College to describe both her path to choosing graduate research, present her work, and advise the incoming freshman.

07/26/2014 - Mullins Lab at Woods Hole - Mary Mullins and Francesca Tuazon will teach techniques and methodology of zebrafish embryo RNA and morpholino injections at the upcoming Zebrafish Development and Genetics course at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA.

07/23/2014 - James Dutko to speak and co-chair a session at the 10th International BMP Conference - James Dutko will present his work titled “Differential Function of Type I Receptors in BMP Heterodimer-assembeled Complexes” on Sept 17th and co-chair the BMPs And Common Mechanisms In Development And Disease session on Sept 19th at the 10th International BMP Conference.

07/16/2014 - Mullins Lab at the 73rd Annual SDB Meeting - Mary Mullins will serve as a discussant for the Saturday morning discussion on "Funding and Developmental Biology: The View from the Study Sections/Panels". Joseph Zinski will present his work on the BMP signalling gradient in the Tissue Formation and Engineering Session on Friday Morning (9:45, Program Number 7). Yvette Langdon will present her work on the Split Top mutant Saturday night (Program Abstract #494 and Board #B110).

07/26/2013 - James Dutko: Pushing Back the Frontiers - Congratulations to James Dutko for being featured in the Penn Medicine News Blog! The article, entitled “Cycling for Cancer and Zebrafish” describes James’ fervor for both scientific endeavors and cycling for the cause. We thank James for his tireless efforts to push back the frontiers of science, both in the lab and on charitable biking marathons.

- 07/10/2013 - Welcome Ben Tajer! - The Mullin Lab welcomes incoming graduate student Ben Tajer to the lab. His thesis work will address how the BMP type I and II receptors function in forming the BMP gradient that patterns the dorsal-ventral axis of the developing zerbafish gastrula.

06/12/2013 - Bon Voyage and Best Fishes! - Today we bid a sad farewell to our talented post-doc Lee Kapp. He has tajen a position as an assistant professor in the department of Genetics, Cell, and Molecular Biology at A.T. Still University in Arizona. Lee has been with our lab for seven years now working on maternal effect mutants affecting the germ line and dorsal organizer. We wish him the best of luck!

06/12/2013 - Elliott Abrams Wins 2013 Holtzer Prize - Congratulations to Mullins Lab post-doc Elliott Abrams for being selected as the winner of the 2013 Holtzer Prize for his work on "Dynamic Assembly of Brambleberry Mediates Nuclear Envelope Fusion during Early Development," published in Cell.

04/08/2013 - The Maternal Regulation of DV patterning by split-top will be presented at MARZ - Yvette Langdon will present her work entitled, "split top: A Maternal Regulator of Dorsal-Ventral Patterning and Morphogenesis," at the upcoming Mid-Atlantic Regional Zebrafish Meeting on May 17th.

03/28/2013 - Coordinating DV and AP Patterning - The connection between Dorsal-Ventral and Anterior-Posterior patterning in Zfish is unraveled in the latest article by Megumi Hashiguchi published this March in Development! Her data reveals that the temporal progression of DV patterning is directly coordinated with AP patterning, and that this patterning is coordinated by interplay between the BMP and FGF/MAPK pathways.

02/13/2013 - Bon Voyage and Best Fishes! - Today we bid a sad farewell to our talented post-doc Megumi Hashiguchi. She will be joining the Adam Antebi Lab at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing. Megumi has been with our lab for four years now, and has become a beloved member of our lab family. We wish her the best of luck!

07/03/2012 - The brambleberry mutant story makes is debut in Cell! - Congratulations to Elliott Abrams along with Hong Zhang, Lee Kapp, Florence Marlow, and Sumei Lu for publishing their work on the brambleberry mutant! Their paper is entitled ‘Dynamic assembly of brambleberry mediates nuclear envelope fusion during early development.’
