NEMS Workshops

Two types of workshops are currently offered: The NEMS Basic Workshop and the NEMS Train-the-Trainer.

We have trained hundreds of people throughout the United States and abroad, including, Canada, the Netherlands, and Japan (US Map).

NEMS Basic Training Workshop

In this workshop, participants learn how to conduct nutrition environment assessments using the NEMS measures.

This process includes:

• learning consumer nutrition basics
• enumerating food outlets in a neighborhood
• completing the NEMS Observational Measures in stores and restaurants
• analyzing and presenting results

NEMS Train-the-Trainer Workshop

The Train-the-Trainer Workshop builds on the NEMS Basics Workshop with participants receiving additional instruction on how to organize and conduct a NEMS training. The Train-the-Trainer Workshop is held immediately following each NEMS Basics Workshop for those who are interested.

In order to be fully certified as an official NEMS trainer, participants will be expected to conduct a NEMS training in their community. Participants who want to be an Official NEMS Master Trainer will be expected to return to Atlanta to assist the NEMS training team with a NEMS Basic Training Workshop. NEMS will pay for travel and lodging costs.
