Orthopaedic Research Laboratory: Sinks and Sink Usage
Room 414: Micro-testing1. Room 414, the micro-testing room, has two sinks. The sink closest to the door is equipped with foot pedals and is the 'clean' sink.
2. The 'clean' sink is for washing hands when leaving the lab space or for washing non-contaminated items. Do not contaminate this sink.
3. The second sink in room 414 is for cleaning instruments, filling containers with water for specimen thawing and washing contaminated items. This sink is not to be used for thawing specimens. Leak-proof containers are available for thawing. If needed, sinks for thawing specimens are available in room 410. After you are done using this sink, clean the faucet handles and all surfaces in and around the sink with 10% bleach solution. Do not use this sink for washing food containers or eating utensils.
Room 412: Large Scale Testing
1. Room 412, the large-scale testing room, has two sinks. Neither of these sinks are considered 'clean'. Do not use these sinks for washing food containers or eating utensils.
Room 410: Dissection
1. Room 410, the dissection room, has two sinks. Neither of these sinks are considered 'clean'. Only foot pedals should be used with either of these sinks.
2. After you are done using these sinks, wipe and clean any visible debris off the counters and sink basin. Run warm water and turn on the disposal for a few seconds to clean the drain.
3. Spray all surfaces in and around the sink with 10% Bleach solution and clean Rinse sink area with a liberal amount of water after cleaning with bleach.
4. Do not leave any tissue fragments in these sinks.
5. Do not leave any standing water or other fluid puddles on the countertops.
6. Wash hands with Vionex or an appropriate disinfectant after cleaning the sink and prior to leaving the lab space.
