Welcome to the Elliott Lab

The goals of our research program in disc biomechanics are to determine the pathogenesis and progression of intervertebral disc degeneration and to develop and evaluate functional disc treatments.

We hypothesize that mechanical factors are a critical component in the cascade of disc degeneration and in interventions for disc restoration.

Our program utilizes sophisticated and rigorous mechanical tests and novel mathematical models to study animal and human spines. Our research falls within two programmatic areas:
1. Fiber-reinforced soft tissue mechanics
2. Intervertebral disc degeneration and restoration
