Want to learn more about orthopaedic surgery?

Shadowing an is an excellent way to experience a day in the life of a orthopaedic surgeon. Penn is fortunate to have faculty in a wide variety of specialty areas that are enthusiastic about medical student education.

Here are some guidelines to help you make the most of your shadowing experience:

  • Choose one or more sub-specialties that interest you (Sports, Joint Replacement, Hand, Shoulder & Elbow, Spine, Trauma, Oncology, Neuro-orthopaedics, Foot & Ankle, Pediatrics)
  • Review the online faculty profiles to see a list of surgeons in each sub-specialty area and their practice locations
  • Consider whether you would like to spend time in the OR or the clinic
  • Choose a range of dates (either full or half days at minimum) when you will be available
  • Email Gabe Horneff with the above information to make the final arrangements
