Department of Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics is fully committed to its training programs. Our residency and student training programs are consistently among the best in the nation. The Department is extremely proud of the selection of courses offered to Penn medical students and visiting students alike. Information on all courses offered within the Department is available by going to the Medical Student Courses link on this page.
The categorical pediatric residency program at CHOP continues to be one of the most competitive in the United States. Fully approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), our residency program currently trains 124 interns and residents. After completion of the three-year program, many continue their subspecialty training with us. Our subspecialty fellowship programs are also fully approved by the ACGME. These programs currently train 121 subspecialty fellows.
We also offer a 5-year integrated Pediatrics/Genetics program (in conjunction with the Department of Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine) leading to board eligibility in both disciplines.
Finally, the Department of Pediatrics at CHOP and Department of Medicine at HUP jointly sponsor the Med/Peds program. This 4-year program, established in 2004, provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient training in the two rigorous and complementary environments.
