Cytoskeleton and Motility
Members of the Cytoskeleton and Motility Subgroup are a highly interactive group of investigators using interdisciplinary techniques to investigate the cell biology and pathology of cell migration, intracellular transport, chromosome segregation, cell division, mechanisms of molecular motor function, smooth, cardiac and skeletal muscle contraction, muscle physiology and development. Penn Cell Biology researchers are focused on understanding the mechanisms of force production, coordination and regulation of intracellular transport, and the exploration of the links between cytoskeletal and motor protein defects and human disease. Subgroup members meet regularly in active seminar and journal club programs to discuss the latest advances in the field. Penn investigators have a rich history in the study of the cytoskeleton and motility and have been very successful in developing collaborative, multi-disciplinary approaches using advanced technologies to probe the mechanisms driving cellular dynamics.
