Signal Transduction
The Signal Transduction subgroup of the program in Cell biology is comprised of a group of laboratories actively engaged in investigations regarding the transfer of information within cells. Many canonical signal cascades are represented, including those involving protein tyrosine kinases, phospholipids, heterotrimeric G proteins, serine/threonine kinases and second messengers. In addition, investigators are constantly exploring novel modes of intracellular communication, and we regard signaling in it broadest context. Ongoing projects address virtually all steps in signaling, from interaction with a plasma membrane or intracellular receptor to cytoplasmic and nuclear targets. In addition to many collaborations and informal interactions, the Signal Transduction group sponsors seminars and lectures, a general signaling data/journal club, and a number of more specialized interest groups. The overall goal is to enhance the quality and impact of signaling research at Penn, as well as provide more focused education and training for students and postdoctoral fellows.
