Cell Migration and Intracellular Transport

These are 3D maps of smooth-muscle myosin bound to F-actin in the presence and absence of ADP. The figures were obtained by cryo-electron microscopy coupled with helical image analysis and averaging. Comparisons of the 3D maps of actin-bound myosin reveal that there is a large structural change in the light-chain domain of myosin upon ADP binding. This data is the first to show directly that the regulatory domain acts as a rigid lever arm pivoting about the end of the motor domain.
