Penn Presbyterian's Addictions Treatment Program Wins National Award

August, 2002

Penn Presbyterian Medical Center's Penn Medicine Neuroscience Center - Addiction Treatment Services was recently named "Organization of the Year" by the National Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC). NAADAC presents this national award annually to one organization that demonstrates excellence in clinical treatment, professionalism in practice and dedication to the support and advancement of nurses and counselors in the addiction treatment field. This award comes on the heels of being named "Program of the Year" by the Pennsylvania Certification Board.

Sharon Morgillo-Freeman, MSN, MA, RN-CS, Nurse Manager of two inpatient units and the Addiction Assessment Center, accepted the award at the National Conference on July 6, 2002, in Boston, MA. The Addiction Services Programs also include the Non-Hospital unit managed by Marjorie Lehigh, BSN, RN, and the Intensive Outpatient Program managed by Vincent Wright, BA. On winning the award, Morgillo-Freeman says, "There is no greater honor than the recognition of one's peers. To be recognized at a national level is the experience of a lifetime as well as validation for hard work well done."

Penn Presbyterian offers an Addiction Assessment Center, where assessments are offered seven days a week; In-patient Hospital and Non-hospital Detoxification and Rehabilitation programs; an Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program; and In-patient Psychiatric treatment services, including crisis intervention, and in-patient and residential adult psychiatric programs.

NAADAC is the largest professional organization for alcoholism and drug abuse treatment professionals, with nearly 40,000 members and 47 state affiliations representing more than 80,000 addiction counselors. NAADAC's members strive to create healthier families and communities through prevention, intervention and quality treatment.
