The University of Pennsylvania in partnership with NARSAD presents Healthy Minds Across America: A national day of free public forums on the progress and promise of mental health research. This forum, held on Sunday, September 14, 2008 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Biomedical Research Building Auditorium (421 Curie Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA), is free and open to the public. The Department of Psychiatry and Philadelphia Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia present the public seminar series, Freud, Frankin and Beyond. An interdisciplinary panel will discuss the topic: "The Return of the Soldier". The discussion will address the needs, challenges, and problems of soldiers returning from battle, including historical, cultural, and psychoanalytic perspectives. December 2007
The PENN Autism Network will present a screening of the documentary film, Billy the Kid, about a 15-year old boy with Asperger's Syndrome. The film will be shown in the Zellerbach Theater at the University of Pennsylvania on December 13th at 7:30pm. The director of the film, Jennifer Venditti, will be in attendance and a Q & A session with her will follow the screening. Please click here for more details about the event and the film.

The 2nd Annual Penn Autism Network Conference, "Journeys Through Adolescence and Adulthood" will be held on March 15th-16th at the University of Pennsylvania. Please click here for conference schedule and registration.
The Neuropsychiatry Program, Schizophrenia Research Center, presents the annual Blanche Prince and Harry Stern Memorial Symposium on March 15th. The symposium, Translating Research to Treatment in Schizophrenia is free and open to the public.
On March 15 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, HBO will be airing a 90-minute documentary called Addiction, which is co-presented by NIDA and NIAAA. The documentary is aimed at helping Americans understand addiction as a treatable brain disease, as well as spotlighting new medical advancements and cutting edge research. The Center for Studies of Addictions in the Department of Psychiatry leads the field in the understanding and treatment of addiction, and as such, several departmental faculty members; including Drs. Charles O’Brien, Anna Rose Childress, and Thomas McClellan, were interviewed extensively for this important public education piece. For the first time, HBO will use all of its digital platforms, including the television stations, podcasts, web streams, and DVD sales to support a campaign that includes a 14-part documentary series, a book published by Rodale Press, four independent addiction-themed films, a comprehensive website and a national community grassroots outreach campaign funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJ).
