Introduction

The American Chemical Society (ACS) Project SEED  is a summer program that encourages high school students (juniors and seniors), from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue career opportunities in chemistry.

The Program

Project SEED consists of an eight-week chemistry related research project that each student conducts with a dedicated mentor in an active research laboratory.  During the program college/academic counseling is provided and there are visits to local pharmaceutical and chemical companies.  Near the end of the program the student prepares a talk that is presented to his or her laboratory colleagues and fellow SEED students.  The student also completes a written report which is submitted to the American Chemical Society.

For 2008, each Summer I student will receive a stipend of $2,500.
