New PennKey Process for CHOP Affiliates
Note: to CHOP staff regarding library services
Effective January 28, 2008, affiliates from CHOP must obtain a signed sponsorship form from an approved School of Medicine sponsor (faculty with a valid PennCard are exempt from this requirement). Please follow the instructions below:
- Know why you need a PennKey. If someone tells you to get a PennKey, but you don't know why, find out. You will need to know the purpose of the PennKey in order to approach the correct sponsor.
- Identify the appropriate sponsor from the list below, based on the service you need access to:
- Access to the Library: PennKeys for this purpose are not available until an arrangement is reached between CHOP and the University/School of Medicine. We hope this situation is resolved by the end of September, 2008. Please check back.
- Access to FEDS (Faculty Expertise Database): contact the Pediatrics Faculty Coordinator at 215-590-1767 to make arrangements to have your form signed. Be prepared to explain your need for access. You will need additional access beyond the PennKey in order to use the FEDS system.
- Access to KnowledgeLink, the online training system used by the University of Pennsylvania and the Health System: contact the appropriate training provider:
- Patient-Oriented Research Training: contact the Office of Human Research, Education & Training, 215-746-7406 to arrange for sponsorship.
- Bioethics Training: contact the office of Biomedical Postdoc Programs, 215-573-4332 to arrange for sponsorship.
- UPHS Patient Safety Training: refer to http://uphsxnet.uphs.upenn.edu/hr/compliance/hup.html for instructions on the process for obtaining a PennKey.
- For other KnowledgeLink training: contact the Office of Organization Effectiveness, 215-573-0682. Be prepared to identify the training you need. You may need additional access granted before your needed training is available to you.
- Access to the Cell Center Stockroom: contact the Stockroom, 215-898-2069 to arrange for sponsorship. Be prepared to identify the faculty member with whom you are affiliated. Your faculty member or lab manager will still need to grant you access in order to use the system.
- Access to OASIS evaluation system: contact the School's Registrar, 215-898-4646 to arrange for sponsorship. The Registrar will have to grant you the appropriate level of OASIS access.
- Registration for Biostats or Epidemiology courses: contact Tom Kelly, 215-898-0861 to arrange for sponsorship.
- Access to Medview or other UPHS clinical systems: refer back to your department for an appropriate contact.
- Other: call Information Services, 215-573-9185, for a referral to the appropriate sponsor. Please provide as much detail as possible about your need for a PennKey.
- Print the appropriate sponsorship form and complete your personal information.
- Contact the appropriate sponsor from the list above and make arrangements for them to sign your sponsorship form. You may need to provide them with specific information about your need for a PennKey.
- Contact the appropriate PennKey Administrator to arrange for a PennKey. Please have your signed sponsorship form completed before you contact a PennKey Administrator.
- If you need a PennKey for access to UPHS clinical systems or for access to UPHS online training, your sponsor will give you instructions about a PennKey administrator.
- If you need access to a School of Medicine service (FEDS, Patient-Oriented Research Training, Bioethics Training, other school of Medicine training, Cell Center Stockroom, OASIS), contact 215-573-9185 to arrange for an appointment.
- If you're not sure which PennKey Administrator to call, call Information Services at 573-9185 for a referral.
- Make sure you have your employer's photo ID card and a government-issued ID when you visit the PennKey Administrator. Please note you must have an appointment in advance of obtaining a PennKey.
