Install Kerberos

Kerberos is a technology that helps keep passwords, like your mail.med password, from being intercepted on the network. Mac OS 10.2 and later already has Kerberos built-in. Penn provides installers that configure Kerberos for use with Penn servers.

Some mail.med accounts require Kerberos authentication. Using Kerberos will allow your e-mail program, like Eudora or Apple Mail, to use Kerberos to login to the mail.med server securely.

Download Kerberos Installers

Kerberos is available free of charge to members of the Penn community. A PennKey and password is required to download Kerberos. You should have StuffIt Expander on your computer before attempting to download and install this software.

Install Kerberos

Double-click on the installation file, and follow the on-screen instructions. (You might need to double-click on the file once to decompress it, then again on the decompressed file to run the installer.)

After you finish, you can delete the installation files.

Logging in using Kerberos

Once you have logged in successfully with your PennKey name and PennKey password you are given "ticket" that will allow you to automatically log in to other Kerberos services for a period of ten hours. Once this ticket has expired, or you log off the machine, you will need to login using Leash again.
