The University is expecting to experience a number of "RED" days, i.e. one of the five peak electrical demand hours this summer, will occur this week. The National Weather Service has projected daytime outside temperature in the low to mid 90's with seasonal humidity levels for the Philadelphia area. These conditions place extra demands on our cooling, electrical and HVAC systems. We ask that you and other building occupants please turn off, where possible and practical, all non-essential lights, appliances and equipment. This will reduce the University’s electric demand and help to reduce inside temperatures. Thank you in advance for your help.

NOTICE:Stemmler Hall Construction Activities: STEMMLER HALL, EDWARD J.

Service(s) Affected: Whole Building

Notice Date: 04/24/2015

Building(s) Affected:

Stemmler Hall, Edward J.(Stemmler)
Whole Building Affected: YES

Advisory:
Stemmler Hall will be undergoing major interior laboratory and infrastructural renovations over the next 3 years. The project team will be scheduling regular Town Hall type meetings to keep building occupants informed during the course of this project. The first of these meetings was held on April 8. The next meeting will be held on May, 20, 2015. If you did not receive notification of the last town hall meeting, please forward your contact information and location in Stemmler to Margo Pietras-Barnes (mpietras@upenn.edu) so that you can be added to our distribution list.

The upcoming meeting will provide an overview of the project, with specific details on the phasing of the work and emphasis on how the construction logistics will be handled in order to mitigate noise, vibration, and disturbance.

The project team recently completed an exercise in which we simulated various construction activities at several locations throughout the building. Our acoustician has been taking baseline readings with a handheld device and has installed accelerometers that will be remotely monitoring the vibration levels throughout the course of the project. We are working with the data gathered by our acoustician and reports submitted by building occupants to determine to type and degree of noise and vibration that is acceptable to building occupants. Please submit any records that you have of observable noise or vibration from 4/13 through 4/17 either electronically to Mike Beatrice (mbeatrice@torcon.com) or to SH Suite 313 so that we can include your information with our other collected data.
