Module 4 Attendance Policy

Overall

Module 4 is a 48 week curriculum, which is required of all students. All students, except those in the MD/PhD track, must complete Module 4 in its entirety in one calendar year. MD/PhD students must complete 6 months of Module 4 before beginning graduate coursework with the remainder scheduled on an individualized basis.

Attendance

The 48 weeks of Module 4 are broken into two 24-week blocks with a 2-week vacation in late June/early July. Students are not permitted to take additional weeks of vacation during this Module and must keep this in mind when planning personal events such as weddings, family reunions, etc.

Module 4 also includes some weekend commitments. Family practice, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, and Otorhinolaryngology, Outpatient Pediatrics have no weekend (Friday 5pm - Monday 5am) obligations. Weekends are required during the Inpatient Medicine, Inpatient Pediatrics, and Surgery clerkships. The weekend schedule is variable in the ER, OBGYN, and Psychiatry clerkships; therefore, course directors need to be consulted prior to the course begin date

Exceptions

Permission is needed to drop or withdraw from a Module 4 course due to extenuating circumstances, such as a family emergency or personal illness. This process will be coordinated by the Registrar who will consult with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. The Associate Dean, in consultation with the Registrar, and the student will develop a plan for completing the course requirements in the next calendar year. The course director and appropriate administrative personnel will be notified if permission has been granted.

Progression to Module 5

All students, who have successfully completed all of Module 4 will be allowed to enroll in Module 5 courses. Students in the MD/PhD track, who have completed 6 months of Module 4, may enroll in Module 4 and Module 5 courses within the same calendar year.
