As you begin to formulate your plans for the summer, please keep in mind that this is the last unscheduled summer that you will have throughout medical school and probably for many years ahead. It is extremely important that you do what you want with this time. In the past, students have had a variety of wonderfully interesting experiences ranging from research, international travel and community service to shadowing physicians, leading cross country teen tours and working at summer camps.
While many students choose to do something medically related, you certainly are not required or even expected to do so. It is important for you to do something which you will enjoy. Remember, the first year of medical school is a long, challenging and often stressful experience. Regardless of how you choose to spend your summer, make sure you carve out some time to relax, rejuvenate, and get ready for your second year!
