Training Opportunities
There is an urgent need to train investigators who have the quality and breadth of experience necessary to conduct transdiscipinary tobacco use research. The PENN TTURC Training Core is trying to meet this need by:
- Recruiting and training post-doctoral fellows who are dedicated to developing a career in transdisciplinary tobacco use research. This is accomplished by providing a co-mentored training experience (with each mentor from a different discipline), as well as formal didactic experiences and independent (mentored) research.
- Integrating training in tobacco use research with existing fellowship programs at PENN. This is done via workshops and didactic experiences supplemented by individual mentored research experiences.
- Facilitating cross training in tobacco research through seminar series, tobacco affinity groups, and the submission of manuscripts, pilot projects, and grant applications.
Under the direction of Dr. Janet Audrain-McGovern and Dr. J. Sanford Schwartz, this interdisciplinary program recruits qualified applicants with an M.D., M.D./Ph.D. or Ph.D. degree(s) in order to prepare them for basic, patient, and population based transdisciplinary research in nicotine dependence and tobacco control.
During the two-year program, trainees receive multidisciplinary research supervision from TTURC-faculty mentors; participate in a monthly nicotine research journal club and seminar series, and participate in workshops related to basic science, nicotine dependence, genetics, and statistical methods. For more information about this program, contact Angela Pinto by telephone (215) 746-7171 or through EMAIL
