Visiting Students

Thank you for your interest in enrolling as a visiting student in the University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine.

ATTENTION:

We are no longer accepting applications for Emergency Medicine at HUP.

ATTENTION:

We are currently in the process of revising our Visiting Student application to reflect our new malpractice requirements. Even though the application is not current, we don’t want to put at risk your applying to our school. With this said, please notify your school that items 3 and 4 are no longer valid; therefore, your school does not have to verify its contents. We are now part of the AAMC Uniform Clinical Training Agreement Registry. You can check with your school to see if they participate.

ATTENTION:

The following OBGYN electives at Pennsylvania Hospital are not offered in June (Tuesday, May 26 start date) or July (July 6 start date)

OBG303D - Gyn/Onc

This application is for students from U.S. and Canadian medical schools, which have been accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or by the American Osteopathic Association.   Students from international medical schools can find eligibility and application information on the Global Health Programs website.

HOW TO APPLY

A student in good standing is eligible to apply for up to eight weeks of electives after completing the majority of the clerkships.  Minimum requirements are medicine, surgery, and the core clerkship in the area of interest.   The documents must be postmarked at least five weeks before the rotation start date.  Any application received after this deadline will not be processed.  There are two parts to the application process.   One portion must be completed on-line and the rest should be mailed by the home school to:

Maria Hernandez
Registrar’s Office
Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania
Jordan Medical Education Center, 6th Floor
3400 Civic Center Boulevard, Building 421
Philadelphia, PA 19104-5162

Applications are considered to be complete when the on-line section has been submitted and all paper documentation has been received.   The “completion date” is used to process the application since the majority of electives are offered on a first-complete, first served basis.  Please use our Visiting Student Checklist as a guide through the application process. This document should be completed by the student and sent by the home school with all other supporting documents.
