Anthony N. Fabricatore, Ph.D.

Anthony N. Fabricatore, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He received his B.A. and M.A. from Loyola College in Maryland.  He completed his predoctoral internship at Temple University Health Sciences Center and received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Saint Louis University.

Dr. Fabricatore's research interests include long-term behavioral management of weight and type 2 diabetes, functional impairments associated with obesity, and the psychosocial aspects of obesity and bariatric surgery.  He is currently the principal investigator on an NIH-funded study to compare the long-term effects of low-fat and low-gylcemic load diets among overweight and obese adults with type 2 diabetes.  Additionally, he is researching patients’ fMRI response to food cues before and after bariatric surgery.

His primary clinical duties include the provision of psychotherapy and behavioral weight control therapy, and the psychological assessment of patients seeking bariatric surgery.  As co-Director of Education for the Center for Weight and Eating Disorders, Dr. Fabricatore is jointly responsible for structuring and supervising the clinical training of several predoctoral practicum students each year.
